Afghan lawmakers on Saturday approved three out of four of President Hamid Karzai's picks for Afghanistan's top security positions more than a month after the Ministers of Defence and Interior were dismissed.

The three candidates approved by parliament are the former Interior Minister Bismillah Mohammadi as Minister of Defence, the Deputy Minister for the Afghan Public Protection Force Mujtaba Patang as Minister of Interior, and the Minister of Border and Tribal Affairs Assadullah Khalid as the country's new intelligence chief at the National Directorate of Security (NDS).
Nearly 20 insurgents entered the Helmand Nato base Camp Bastion to launch an attack that killed two US soldiers and wounded more, Isaf confirmed in a statement Saturday afternoon.
The insurgents were armed with small arms, rocket-propelled grenades and suicide improvised explosive device vests, Isaf said.
